Ladies of Lumber: 100 Women Build Kids' Beds in Yorkville for Sleep in Heavenly Peace
The beds go to local children who don't have one of their own, and families in the area can apply for free.
About 100 women from around the Mohawk Valley built beds for local kids on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 55 Oriskany Blvd. in Yorkville, at the Utica chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace's first women-only "Ladies of Lumber" build. WIBX put the count at 48 beds; the Utica Phoenix said nearly 40.
The beds go to children ages 3 to 17 who don't have a bed of their own.
Need a bed? A parent or guardian can apply at shpbeds.org/apply, or a school or agency can refer a family. Check that your ZIP code is served. Applying doesn't guarantee a bed or a delivery date; it depends on supplies and donations.
Want to help? The chapter takes build sponsors, volunteer builders and delivery help, plus donated sheets. Details are on the Utica chapter page.
